I used to collect ducks. Not live ones, but the kind that look really cute when you choose a “country look” to decorate your house. Seventeen years ago, I moved and decided to change to a new decorating style.
What do you think happened to the ducks and all of my country accessories when I moved?
- I put them in a box and moved them into my new basement
- I gave them as holiday presents
- I donated them to Habitat for Humanity
If you guessed “1” then you are correct. Seventeen years later I took what was left and donated it to The ReStore. I know that blue duck clock and blue tiffany lamp are going to look fabulous in the right house.
Donating at The ReStore was so easy. They accepted everything I brought, which included a fax machine, a duck clock, knick-knacks and two lighting fixtures. I got a receipt for my taxes (a good year-end strategy) and my basement is looking better every day. I’m on a mission to de-clutter.
The moral of this story: You know when you aren’t going to use something again. Donate it now. Don’t wait seventeen years. Habitat will even come to your house to pick up what you want to donate. By the way, you can donate everything from appliances to cabinets to furniture. For a complete listing of acceptable donations, click here.
